The United Republic of Orion today confirmed the charting of the Nereid Sector, marking humanity’s most distant discovery in the Orion Arm to date.

The announcement was made by the Exploration and Development Committee (EDC), with representatives from the Stellar Cartography & Licensing Authority (SCLA) and the Department of Defense present. Officials hailed the breakthrough as “a testament to the Republic’s unyielding commitment to exploration, prosperity, and security.”

Although Nereid’s systems are rich in potential, Republic officials admitted the distance places the sector beyond the reach of current logistical networks. As a result, the Republic is working closely with corporate partners — including OrionEX and Cynosure Industrial — to develop a major supporting installation that will extend supply lines and make access possible in the years ahead.

“This is more than a discovery,” said a Senate spokesperson. “Nereid represents a promise to future generations. It is the next horizon — and though we cannot yet set foot there, we are laying the foundation to make it possible.”

OrionEX emphasized its role in designing long-haul logistical corridors, while Cynosure pledged its expertise in sustaining safe life-support and terraforming precursors. Both corporations described the effort as “historic” and “a cornerstone for humanity’s future.”

Survey missions, coordinated by OSI, are already underway to map potential resource sites and navigational hazards. Republic leaders framed the announcement as proof of humanity’s unity, declaring that “the discovery of Nereid is not for one system, but for all citizens of the Republic.”
